My Mother's Disease

In this world we have a lot of diseases; the Dengue Fever is one of them.  It’s what happened to my mother; she contracted Dengue Fever a few years ago.  In 2008, according to the world health Organization (WHO), there were between 70 and 500 millions infections, 36million cases of classic dengue fever in the world, 2.1 million severe forms and 21 000 deaths from Dengue Fever. What would your reaction be, if you wake up in the morning and you realize that you are paralyzed? Paralysis is one effect of the Dengue Fever. My mother realized she was very sick when she became paralyzed one week after she came back from Dominican Republic. She suffered through three stages before restarting her life; the diagnosis, the recovery and the after effects.
First of all, my mother got the Dengue Fever a few years ago. When she was working, all her joints stopped to moves. She went to the hospital in my own town; the doctor took eighteen blood tests on her, but they found nothing. My mother went to the hospital for tropical diseases of Montreal. At this time, she was already paralyzed. The doctor took only one blood test and he found it. It was the Dengue Fever. He started to explain the disease to her; you have three types of Dengue Fever. The first one is you stay paralyze for all the rest of your life or just a period of time. The second is an amputation; you can lose one of your legs, arms or maybe both. The last one is you can have an internal heamorrahage and die after a couple hours. After all the doctor’s explanations, he told her that she had the first one. Therefore, she started to think about every activity that she was doing at this time, and stop them.
Secondly, my mother was very worried because she was paralyzed, and she didn’t know for how long. At this time, my mother started to think about all the activities that she has to stop to do. For examples, walk outside with her friends, stopped to play with me because at this time I was only 5 years old ,and especially stopped to work. All those things really affect her life. Mentally it was really hard because she really stopped to do everything. My dad was always working and she was often alone at home with me. In addition, just before to leave from here to the Dominican, my parents were talking about having another baby. At this time, they had to completely forget it because my mother was too sick.
After two years of being motionless, she restarted to move a little bit. Today my mother can move like as if nothing was happened. In addition, she had another baby with my dad 2years after she restarts to move. Therefore, she has some after effects now, like when the weather is too hot or too cold her hands can swell. She can have some bad headache too. My mother has very afraid to go in the south another time. Mentally, it’s very hard to see all her friends and her family said that they are going in the south without vaccines or prevention.
In conclusion, the Dengue Fever is not everywhere but we have to be careful because we never know what is going to happen in another country. Are you going to take some precautions before to leave for another country?  It was a really bad period in her life, but we overcome all together. We were always together from the judgment of the doctor, the recuperation and to her after effects. I am sure; in this world this is going to be worst year after year. Can you imagine, you have 6 years old and your mother paralyze two years what is your reaction? I think those are really hard question to answer, but my mother did it.
